When using the Tower/CTAF Frequencies, use the 5 W's.

1. Who you are contacting

2. Who you are

3. Where you are

4. What you want

5. Who you are

For example:

"Rockford Center, N1234 5 miles south of the island, requesting transition through the bravo, N1234."

Sample Radio Calls

VFR "Clearance"

You: "Tower, Callsign, VFR to Destination"

Tower: "Callsign, Cleared VFR to Destination, Expect runway RNWY, Flight level 015 after departure, departure is with me, squawk 1200"

You: "Cleared VFR to Destination, Expect runway RNWY, climb 015 after departure, departure is with you, squawk 1200 for Callsign"
